whatever it may be
“And we rise in our delightful messes. We rise in our wonderfully demanding circumstances. We rise in our resilience.”
What is the definition of Woman? In 2017, and for as long as I’ve been in my 30’s (and I’m teetering far on the right-hand side of the 30s) woman has meant a great many things. And one of those things happen to be putting our great love, whatever it may be, ahead of ourselves. Ahead of our basic needs.
When I say great love, there is a whole host of people, activities or things that could fall into that category. It could be family, children, work, sports, or even a vocation-come-new-full-time-job-coz-we-love-it-so. I’m not sure if our 30’s and early 40’s are all about making sacrifices so that we feel we are being ‘the best we can be’, or ‘the best version of ourselves’, the best “insert the rest here” …
I’m not even sure that is going to change in the decades to come as everything becomes so incredibly real-time and instant, and we feel more pressure to go faster, do more, be more, get online more (is that even possible?).
But what I am sure of, is that women are rising.
And we rise in our delightful messes. We rise in our wonderfully demanding circumstances. We rise in our resilience.
We rise, because we are slowly beginning to recognise our self-worth, individually and collectively. And this feeling of worthiness has no price tag.
The definition of Woman is changing. Not because the Oxford says so. Not because the rule of gender has changed (well they have, but not in this context of Woman), but because we are writing our own stories, being braver than ever before and creating our own definitions. We are raising our voices and making our choices – which may be traditional or not. But we are making them.
